Year 4 - Amsterdam 2023 - 2024

Welcome to Year 4

Autumn Term Term

Welcome to your child's first term in Year 4. The children are all happy and settled in their new classroom and are tackling their new challenges with an impressive level of maturity.

Our topic this term is ‘Rivers and the Ancient Civilistions.’ We will initially be  comparing the four Ancient Civilsations of Ancient Sumer, The Indus Valley, Ancient Egypt and The Shang Dynasty. We will look at how rivers were important to each of these and will then be focusing specifically on  ancient life in the Indus Valley.

As part of our geography fieldwork, we visited Macclesfield Forest on Wednesday 11th October. Despite the pouring rain, we all had an amazing time exploring the River Bollin from its source to the reservoir. We observed how the river changed by comparing and measuring the speed of the water flow, taking the temperature of the water and measuring its depth. We were even allowed to stand and paddle in the water as we carried out our tasks! Lunch was a soggy picnic under the trees. In all, we had a fantastic day of learning, walking and exlporing in the forest. (See our photographs in the folder at the top of this page.)

Some children really rose to the challenge of the half term holiday task and really 'wowed' us with their Egyptian creations. Well done to everyone who tried to complete the challenge.
