Welcome to Year 2

Autumn Term 

Our topic for the Autumn term is ‘Home and Away.’ We will learn about the history and Geography of Heald Green and compare it to our capital City - London. We will then compare London to Islamabad before journying all around the world exploring different cultures! 

Spring Term 

For the Spring term the topic is ‘Fire and Ice.’ We will be exploring the question @Why don't penguins need to fly?' and look at the explorations of Sir Ernest Shackleton. We will then learn what life was like in London 400 years ago learning about the Plague and the Great Fire of London. 

Summer Term 

In Summer the topic is ‘Castles and Dinosaurs.’ We will be travelling back in time looking at medieval life and why castles were so important. Then we will be transported even further into the distant past of the Earth to explore Dinosaurs and what the Earth looked like when these giant creatures roamed.

Notes

As the year 2 will be sitting their SATs test around June, it is essential that children are practising reading, writing and maths very regularly. Please help your child to do their best by encouraging them to practise at home!

REMINDERS!

PE will take place on a Tuesday and Friday and will be led by Mrs Hall or Mr Nixon. Please ensure your child has the correct PE kit available in school on these days (information about PE kit can be found in the files below). 

Books will be changed each week. New books will be sent out each Wednesday and due in the following Monday. The children can earn up to 5 dojos for each time they read and sign their reading log. 

Homework will be handed out on Friday and children should hand in their completed homework books in the following Thursday. 

Spelling tests will take place on Fridays. The spelling lists will be included in homework books for children to practise.

Please help us by ensuring that your child has the correct books /kit / work/ equipment in school each day! Thank you!

Snacks are provided, however if your child does not like the fruit and vegetables provided.

Please send in a fruit or vegetable snack daily.

Please also remember that water bottles are essential in class each day!
